iATOMS

Motto – together indivisible (simul indivisibile)

iATOMS is a dynamic organization committed to connecting trainees in oral and maxillofacial surgery globally. Our mission is to strengthen communication, enhance training opportunities, expand career prospects, and ultimately elevate the standard of patient care.

Our core objective is to foster a global network of OMS trainees, bound by friendship, fellowship, and collegiality. By building these connections, we aim to improve the well-being of trainees and advance the quality and scope of OMS knowledge and experience.

Decisions within iATOMS are made through consensus, which aims to ensure that every voice is heard and valued. While achieving consensus can be challenging and requires effort to include all perspectives, it fosters a culture of inclusivity and mutual respect.

iATOMS will establish connections both between individual OMFS trainees and among various trainee organizations, associations, and groups. These connections can be informal or formalized through Memoranda of Understanding.

iATOMS recognizes that there are multiple paths to becoming a specialist in oral and maxillofacial surgery, depending on the country. In some nations, a dental degree is required, while in others, a medical degree is necessary. Additionally, there are countries where both dental and medical degrees are prerequisites for OMS specialization. We embrace this diversity and welcome all trainees, regardless of their educational background. iATOMS makes no distinctions and values the unique perspectives that each pathway brings to the field. By acknowledging our varied origins and appreciating our present, we build a stronger, more inclusive future for OMS.

Structure

iATOMS will, by its nature, be a confederation of organisations, associations, and groups.

The iATOMS forum will meet at least once per year in person or online.

At the forum, objectives for the year will be agreed by consensus.

Working groups will be created to deliver these objectives. Working groups could include an Executive Group to support the actions of the other groups.

Administrative Support

As iATOMS has evolved from the European OMS Trainee Forum, its initial partner will be the UEMS. In the future iATOMS can choose a new partner/host OMS organisation to provide administrative support based on the quality and quantity of support. It will choose this by consensus.

Meetings

There will be one online meeting of iATOMS each year.

The aim would be to have at least one Live meeting of iATOMS per calendar year.

  • Any OMS organisation can offer to host a meeting/conference of iATOMS. The offer should include: A free venue, administrative support for the trainee organisers; sufficient notice to promote attendance.
  • Meetings could be part of national, regional or international meetings either as pre-congress, post-congress or events during the meeting.
  • Where possible the costs for those attending would be kept to a minimum and attendance at the full meeting would not be a pre-requisite for those attending
